Day one

Maureen, my artist friend, and I are staying in a hotel in the heart of the historic district on the plaza (Zocalo) in front of the President's Place.  This morning we watched the raising of the flag from our window.  When we returned to the hotel late in the day, the plaza was filled with people carrying banners, flags, and placards protesting various political and social issues.  Bands were playing the speeches were delivered through loudspeakers at top volume.

We spent the day at the National Museum of Anthropology, photographying and drawing some of the objects.  The first floor is devoted to historic examples while the second floor has examples of present day material culture from all over Mexico.  I love it all!

I loved the 3 masks..What is the story behind them?

I also love the pre-columbian sculptures, but know more about them.

    Is it warm?????

    Susan,

Yes, it is warm during the middle of the day - high 70's.  Mornings and evenings are cool.  The sun is intense so I have to wear sunscreen.

I don't know anything about the masks because the labels were in Spanish and I "no habla espanol."  However, there is an absolutely marvelous Mexican mask museum in San Miguel so I will be able to tell you more about them after I visit.
