A day full of visual delights
My eyes got a workout today. Maureen and I began by visiting the weekend artisans market (not to be confused with the weekday artisans market in another part of town.) It was jamb packed with vendors and browsers. I didn't see anything that I couldn't live without so I shopped with my camera.

Then on we went to Parque Juarez, a lovely park where this week Le Candelaria, a festival of plants, is being celebrated. This is a tradition unique to San Miguel that has its roots in pre-Hispanic times when seeds were honored. The park was filled with plant vendors selling trees, shrubs and flowers as well as pots and tools. It wasn't too different than the Providence Flower Show! Because I love flowers, I took lots of pictures.

We wrapped up the day by attending the 5th anniversary of Fabrica La Aurora, an art and design center located in a building that was up until recently a textile mill. The stone and brick building has tall ceilings, unique spaces, and some of the old textile equipment still in place. (I experienced a few moments of homesickness for Riverfront Lofts!) The anniversary celebration, complete with champagne, chocolate, and music, drew a huge crowd - I would never have imagined that there were that many artsy Americans in San Miguel. There were a great many art galleries, artists' studios, and decorator shops and all were open this evening. I hope to get back at another time when there aren't the crowds of people to contend with. Sorry, no photos this time.
