Tuesday Market
Located on the edge of town, the Tuesday Market is like an outdoor Super Walmart. There are stalls with fruits and vegetables, bread, meat and fish, and candy as well as clothes, shoes, cosmetics, hardware, kitchen ware, linens, toys, etc. There are also food vendors preparing Mexican fast food and chairs and tables where you can eat it often to the accompaniment of a musical duo playing guitar and accordion. This market is where the Mexicans go to shop and it was crowded. I went looking for two items: a non-stick frying pan and trash bags, and with all of the merchandise on display, I could not find these items! I eventually purchased them across the street at a modern shopping mall (with General Nutrition, Office Depot, etc.) where I saw more foreigners than natives.
The market occupies an area about the size of four football fields.

And here are some things that you would not find in a Walmart in the States and which made the market experience interesting for me.
Lots and lots of dried beans (right) and lots and lots of dried chilies (center) and lots and lots of dried stuff that as far as I could figure out are medicinal herbs (left.)

Tables laden with huge pieces of fried pork rind.

Coconuts with straws.

Lots and lots of handwoven baskets.

And very colorful underwear!
