House tour

This past Sunday I went on a  house tour sponsored by the San Miguel Library.  One of the houses turned out to be an estate with a main house, three guest houses, and a studio located in a mature garden (with pool) with dense plantings so that each house seemed off by itself.  All of the houses had at least 2 bedrooms and 2 baths as well as living rooms, dining rooms, lounges, patios, and rooftop decks.

This estate is owned by Toller Cranston, an artist and Olympic Bronze Medalist in men's figure skating.  He moved to San Miguel from Canada twenty years ago.

The decor of these houses was beyond belief!  It was flamboyant to the point of sensory overload.  Every room was decorated to the hilt.  Every square inch of wall area and flat surface displayed endless amounts of ceramics, glass, and paintings.  Large round platters and large masks of Mexican pottery were in every room.  There were fabrics galore.  And every room had incredible floral arrangements.  Here are just a few pictures of the many pictures I took.

A number of rooms had huge chandelieres that Cranston created himself.

This is his painting studio.  He is a very prolific painter.

This is a detail of one of his paintings.  To see more, go to his website: www. tollercranston official.com
