Out and about in SMA

It is my fourth winter here and I never tire of strolling the streets and admiring the picturesque charm of the buildings, courtyards, cobbled streets, and vistas. In the historic section (UNESCO World Heritage Site) preservation efforts restrict above ground utility poles and wires. What I've noticed this year are 21 century intrusions on the roof tops and wonder why they are permitted.  In addition to the many church bell towers that soar into the intensely blue skies, there are now many communication towers as well.  The picture below is the top of the old city hall, right on the Jardin in the center of town!

Then on the other side of the Jardin, is the pink pseudo-Gothic church, the Parroquia.  On the roof top next to the church is a new, big, shiny steel cylinder.  There is an identical one on the roof of another building across  the Jardin. I don't know the purpose of these things, but again, wonder why they are permitted in the historic zone.

Here are more glimpses of back streets of San Miguel.

Because SMA is situated halfway up a small mountain, the surrounding countryside is often visible from town.

Below is the entrance to the Italian restuarant that is next door to my apartment.  They serve their own home made pasta and thin crust pizzas.

And below is mi casa. My apartment is on the second floor.  There is a rooftop deck and sleeping room on the roof.  It is half a block outside the historic district which explains all the above ground utility wires!
